Roofstock Expands Leadership Team

Former Credit Karma Executive Appointed SFR Marketplace’s VP Product; Haven Realty Capital Founding Partner Named VP Operations

Oakland, CA – April 13, 2016 – Roofstock, the first dedicated online marketplace for investing in leased single-family rental (SFR) homes, today announced the appointment of former Credit Karma executive Jodi Alperstein as vice president of product.

Alperstein’s hire coincides with Eric Gutshall joining Roofstock as its first vice president of operations. Gutshall was a founding partner of investment company Haven Realty Capital and SFR property manager Haven Homes.

Roofstock was started last year by SFR industry pioneers Gary Beasley, Gregor Watson, Rich Ford and Devin Wade on the belief that investing in SFR properties should be stock market simple.

Beasley is the former CEO of Waypoint Homes and co-CEO of public SFR REIT Starwood Waypoint Residential Trust. Watson is the founder of SFR investment firm 643 Capital Management. Ford, as managing director at Jefferies, was widely regarded as one of the leading investment bankers in the SFR industry. And Wade is a payments and secure processing serial entrepreneur.

The announcement today comes just weeks after the public launch of Roofstock, the new, more efficient way to buy and sell investment properties. For sellers, properties can be sold without having to wait until tenants move out, avoiding the lost income while marketing a vacant home and the significant selling costs associated with traditional channels. For buyers, Roofstock offers a proprietary inventory of leased, certified, professionally managed homes that generate immediate cash flow and future home price appreciation potential.

Single-family rental homes represent an outstanding opportunity to generate income and build wealth in a investment that is uncorrelated to today’s volatile stock market, said Beasley, Roofstock’s CEO. Our new executives Jodi and Eric are both tremendous additions to our team and will play crucial roles in building on the early momentum from our public launch last month.

In her new role as Roofstock’s VP of Product, Alperstein oversees product management and design, ensuring that Roofstock’s community of buyers and sellers have the most intuitive and satisfying user experience possible.

Alperstein is a FinTech veteran who previously led product and design at Credit Karma, which helps more than 50 million consumers track their credit and finances using web and mobile apps for free. Before Credit Karma, Alperstein was managing director and head of product, marketing, and design for the Enterprise Risk Solutions division of Moody’s Analytics, a unit of Moody’s Corporation, which helps capital markets and credit risk management professionals worldwide with solutions for measuring, managing, and reporting risk. Prior to Moody’s, Alperstein held several senior product roles at the online discount stock brokerage firm E*TRADE Financial, where she led their retirement, advice, and incentive stock plan product lines.

Gutshall, Roofstock’s new VP of Operations, has served in a variety of operational roles in technology and real estate ventures during his career. Most recently he was a founding partner and president of investment company Haven Realty Capital and SFR property manager Haven Homes, which collectively acquired, renovated and managed several thousand Single-Family Rental homes in markets around the country. Gutshall began his career at a Beverly Hills-based venture capital firm focused on the seeding of early stage start-up companies in the New Media and Internet markets.
